Kaakkuri School is the first school in the city of Oulu that has been built so that both primary and
secondary schools are under one roof. Kaakkuri School is situated about 10 km from the center of
Oulu. We have about 813 pupils aged 7-16 and the whole school is applying for the project. There
are 69 teachers in the school and 14 people are working as assisting staff. In Kaakkuri School our
aim is that the pupils are confident for the future, responsible, tolerant, have good manners, have
good communication skills and have facilities for life-long learning. In addition to basic education, our
school offers education for children with special needs for example learning difficulties or behavioral
problems. The backgrounds of the children in Kaakkuri vary a lot. That is why we need to find a
sustainable way to develop children's self-knowledge and emotional skills and create new methods
for teachers to work with. Kaakkuri School is a fairly new school with good facilities to use technology
as a tool to learn. In addition, our aim is to create diverse learning environments, for instance, using
our multi-purpose rooms for studying for all age levels at the same time. Kaakkuri school is very
active in international connections. The staff is relatively young and very active and eager to develop
both its expertise and the functions of the school. We are planning to have all the grades from 1st to
9th involved in this project. We will have lots of expertise in science when class teachers and subject
teachers work together with our classes in this project. Also the smaller and the older pupils will learn
from each other. This years topics are to educate children with positive psychology and enforce cooperation
(Team-teaching) among teachers. We also emphasize the sharing of pedagogical
knowledge. We have already very good experiences of Team-teaching and we would like to share
our experiences and practices with other European schools. We think that Team-teaching is not only
good for students, it is also good for teachers' well-being and schools' social atmosphere. In addition,
we think that this would have a long-term impact of schooling in general. This year we also apply for
the KA1 grants which goals are positive pedagogy and team teaching. In that way KA1 and KA2
projects endorse each other if the grants are accepted. Our school has a Global education-plan and
the goal is that all the students are involved in global education, either through Nordplus or through
Erasmus+. Finland is the head- coordinator country and there are two teachers, Milla Lehtinen and
Hannaleena Enbuska, who have the main responsibility of the project and its management. They
both are experienced coordinators and they both have worked in Kaakkuri school over 10 years. In
addition they have all the support from the headmistress Outi Ervasti and from the other teachers of
the school.
